Rotten Lake is part of a secret underground river system hidden beneath the lands between the Ring of Elton. Crossing Crimson Rot Lake means death is imminent and bosses and enemies will not help. It can be frustrating trying to figure out where to go when the ground you need to walk is killing you.
This guide will explain how to survive the Crimson Rot and leave the lake for the next area boss. The last part of the article will show all valuable items and enemies in the area. Lake Rotten is related to Witch Lanny's side quest and can be accessed via Underground Ansel, which you can teleport to via the portal at the top of Reina Heights or by using the Ansel River Well Lift in East Lilnia, Lake District.

How to survive at Rotten Lake
In the Lake of Rot, you must cross a Sea of Crimson Rot to reach your final destination. This means that the Crimson Rot status effect can quickly build up and start eating away at your health before you even reach the finish line.
There are several ways to solve this so you don't keep dying. One of the best ways to do this is to assign each flask to HP instead of FP and keep drinking health potions as you go across the lake.
As your Flask of Crimson Tears grows from Golden Seeds and becomes more powerful from Holy Tears, heavy use of health potions in the Lake of Rot will do wonders. And that's just before you get to your next seat for free.
You can also grind precious materials to make various preservation pills. These are consumables that remove the Crimson Rot status effect. You need a lot of back-to-back drainage when you enter the lake. You can spam HP Flasks or Preserving Bolus (or both).
Finding and equipping the Mushroom armor set can boost your immunity and really help you survive Lake Rotten.
To unlock creative save pills, you need the Armorer's Cookbook (6). This cookbook can be found on the Siofra River. Next, gather enough honey food, crystal cave moss, and sacramental buds for the ingredients.

Find your way out of Lake Rotten
You can run across Rotten Lake to the end, but it's much easier if you activate the stone paths available. There are several platform buttons and the pillars above them are clear which activate walkways for you. The photo series above shows the road to Rotten Lake.
This will make runs without scarlet possible as you can take breaks along the way and avoid spending too much time in the lake.
- The first platform is easy to find. From Grace Land, go to the coast and turn right. You will see a pillar not far away. Step on the pressure plate to activate a stone walkway.
- Go down the sidewalk and to the right is the second platform and pressure plate. From here you can run across to other platforms and use the pressure plate to reach the third pole, as shown above.
- From platform #3 you will be able to see platforms #4 and #5 in the distance. To the southwest is platform 4 and to the east is platform 5. Run to platform #4. From here you can see a large entrance. This will take you to the next Land of Grace, the Grand Cloister. There is also a small church-like building to the west. Inside is a chest containing the Nomad Warrior recipe (22).
Platforms 4 and 5 are not needed to cross the lake and reach the next area. These pressure plates activate the arena for the boss.
A few things to keep in mind about boss fights and platforming:
- When the pressure plate on platform #4 is activated, the platform will rise and take you to the boss arena in the lake. If you die, you will no longer be able to use platform #4. Along the south wall, where the platform is located, there is again a natural slope up to the ledge.
- Platform 5 is next to the Rotten Lake boss fight, which is optional. This pressure plate makes it possible to fight the boss without Crimson Rot by creating a platform around the boss.
Exit the monastery and find the next boss
From the Grand Cloister Site of Grace, parkour your way to the ground floor of the Grand Cloister. This area is just as difficult, just because of the enemies. There is a stream of scarlet rot here that is easy to avoid. The real problem though is that the enemies rot away if you let one or two of them hit you with a special attack. To go from the ground floor to the first floor of Grace, follow the series of pictures above.
When you get to the bottom, you might want to wait until the patrolling ghouls are out of sight so you can sneak down the large hallway. Enemies that appear to pray at the end will not attack you unless you attack them or get too close. So patrolling enemies is all you need to worry about.
You can easily walk down the Abbey corridor and quickly turn left where there are waterfalls and empty chests. To get to the final boss of the area, enter the lone chest at the end of the river. To keep playing this boss again, sneak in and grab the chest instead of worrying about the enemies.
The special room where the Root Clan pray contains a chest containing the Scorpion's Stinger Dagger.
If you go east instead of west, there are 6 and 7 Forged Stones in North Falls. Try to get these results when spawning a mini-boss.

All of these bosses and mini-bosses are optional and avoidable, except for Astel, Naturalborn of The Void. Defeating Astel is required to progress in the Ranni The Witch quest and find the inaccessible Altar of Moonlight in Liurnia in the Lake District.
